Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) uses a variety of hands-on methods to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness or injury. Your physician will use diverse techniques to achieve movement in different muscles and joints. Some of these techniques such as stretching, gentle pressure and resistance are used to help you alleviate pain, promote healing and increase mobility.

OMT is not only effective in treating muscle pain but it is also beneficial for patients with other health problems such as:

  • migraines
  • asthma
  • sinus disorders
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • menstrual pain

Utilizing OMT is important because it is able to complement - even replace - medications or surgery used in standard medical care, lowering overall healthcare costs for the patients. During your treatment, you will learn different techniques you can use at home to help maintain your health between sessions.

Before your treatment:

  • Do not eat a heavy meal
  • Do not drink large amounts of fluids
  • Dress comfortably in loose clothing for your appointment

What to expect after treatment:

  • Increased flexibility, mobility and functional abilities
  • Increased energy level
  • Lessened joint and muscle pain
  • Mild soreness around treated areas for up to 48 hours

Follow-up appointments are based on each patient's individual progress. Early stages of treatment require more frequent appointments, while later stages require less.
